The carbon dioxide wants to be hydrogenated. The problem is there is a barrier. And life is what arises from the complicated network of reactions that enable this barrier to be crossed.

In fact the entire video is fascinating.

This is one of the few answers on why we exist that actually make sense. It actually blew my mind when I watched this. But somehow I think that it will not satisfy the existential questions of humanity. It's fine though. Where's the fun without questions?
